Here are some stove and heating possibilities:
Wood burning stoves
- Stove world eco-design stoves (£500 for chosen model which is 5kW).
- Esse ironheart range £4095 or £4260 with back boiler.
- Condor stove
- Diablo stoves around £300
- Pellet burners which attract an RHI subsidy from the government’s incentive scheme
- Klover stoves which will be a bit noisy
Ground source heat pumps
These attract the highest rates of incentive payments, up to £0.20+ per kWh. They are also the most expensive to buy, especially if you need a vertical borehole. Nick and Jo up at Greyhills have installed one. They also need underfloor heating or large radiators to be effective (but note that they can be left on for longer than we usually do and a thermostat would sort that out). Electricity is needed to prime them, see our relevant page.
